Blockupy organised a big mass-action against the opening of the new European Central Bank in Frankfurt on the 18th of March. Did it have success and gave it any idea about future actions? No, all action took place in one day and the Bank opened anyhow.
The action activated many people but authorities know how to control mass actions and there are seldom successes. Activists seem not to have learned from the past and still repeat actions that in the last decades became less and less successful. The financial manipulations by the European 1% continue. There were no further ideas how to close the ECB. A Humane World without a 1% never comes into existence after a few mass actions.
Many activists were hurt, arrested or wounded. Also a lot of police officers were damaged. It was again a struggle between two parts of the 99% and the 1% remained undisturbed. People who take decisions that worsen the position of the 99% were not targeted. To get a society without a 1% we need many small actions against the 1% – and maybe sometimes a big action. After this mass action there were no new ideas how to get success.
Mass actions activate people but when successes are scarce activists become disappointed and stop taking part. Mass actions can be inspiring but for success we need many small indivual actions that disturb the private life of the 1%, the people who disturb our private life.
All small and big actions should be directed against decision takers. In this action only a dead building (the new seat of the ECB) was targeted and there were hardly plans for future actions. The 1% continue to live as privileged and extravagant as before, they were not pressured by the Blockupy action. The 1% only have to order their servants to control activists while activists only target servants. In this way change never occurs.
Activists used a lot of energy to organise and take part in this mass action. But the result was disappointing. A next mass action will have less participants. Authorities have learned to control mass actions. We should not repeat that kind of past actions but use a new kind of many small individual actions against the private living situation of real criminals, people who take bad and selfish decisions, the 1% who still rule the world.
